Who we are...
The starting point will be what the student is expected to do in the classroom. I will provide guidance on how to complete these tasks successfully by reinforcing techniques taught by the classroom teacher or showing alternative ways to approach them. It might be helping a student to break a larger task into smaller tasks. It might be simply providing the student the opportunity to ask questions or try solutions that he might otherwise feel uncomfortable trying in the classroom for fear of being “wrong” or “looking dumb” in front of peers.
I have worked with students from all socio-economic backgrounds. My work with English language learners (those whose native language is not English) provides me with instructional techniques that benefit all students including those identified as TAG (talented and gifted) and those receiving special education services. While most of my experience is as a 3rd and 5th grade elementary classroom teacher, I have taught (as a substitute) every grade level from kindergarten through 12th grade. I can adjust instruction to the particular needs of an individual student.
